

FIRE AID founding member, Fire Safety Friends of Russia, has been working in Russia for several years with delivery of fire appliances, training and rescue equipment to Kursk. In addition they are working with the Arkhangelsk Region Rescue Service in north west Russia. Fire Safety Friends of Russia is currently providing cooperation and assistance with reappraisal of service delivery for the region. The areas being addressed are, air search and rescue including rescue swimmers, air ambulance response, extrication and ambulance aid at motor vehicle incidents, urban search and rescue and use of paramedics. Additionally, assistance is being provided to set up live fire training in the region and a fire cadet scheme. The overall aim is to significantly improve survival rates in rescue work.
A visit to the UK in March 2014 took place to help assess actual needs and to begin to formulate a planned programme of development.
