Kursk, Russia


Fire Safety Friends of Russia have delivered the following to the fire service in Kursk:
- Provision of 4 Dennis Fire appliances with high pressure hose reels, light portable pumps, suction hose and portable generators.
- Sea container with 1000 pairs of fire boots, 470 sets of personal protective clothing, 80 fire helmets, 125 chemical protection suits, 25 gas protection suits, resuscitation equipment, radiation meters, vehicle spares and spare lengths hose reel tubing.
- Training provided in pump operation and use of 135 ladders.
- Assistance provided with development of a school safety education programme.
The gathering of local statistics show that attendance time to incidents has been reduced by 20% and the time taken to bring fire under control has been reduced by 15% due to the high pressure hose reels. As a result loss of life has been reduced by 20% (approximately 10 lives per month).
Phase 1 of the Kursk project saw the delivery of 4 Dennis trucks
Phase 2 of their project has seen further delivery of the following:
- Training provided in the UK in vehicle maintenance, ladder testing and maintenance, detailed pump operation and 135 ladder drills.
- Provision of a further 3 Dennis fire appliances with high pressure hose reels, light portable pumps, suction hose and portable generators.
- Provision of information to assist with the development of a national integrated emergency call receipt and command and control system.
