Safer Roads Foundation: Improving road safety in Russia
Our member, Safer Roads Foundation were alerted to the pedestrian crossing outside the State Hermitage Museum on Palace Embankment, in St Petersburg which was situated on a multi-lane approach but protected by only two pavement-sited signals. Drivers in the middle lanes were unable to see any ‘red’ aspect, while simultaneously pedestrians would receive a ‘green-man’ instruction, believing it was safe to cross. Overhead traffic lights have now been installed in both directions.
