On 5th July 2016, FIRE AID organised a ‘Travel Safety and Security’ training for its members and others in partnership with RedR, a leading training provider for the humanitarian aid sector.

The informative and interactive day, hosted by London Fire Brigade at Shadwell Fire Station, was delivered by RedR instructor Nathan Beard who led the 20 delegates through the course which covered the following key areas:

What is Security?
Context Analysis & Developing Awareness
Threat, vulnerability & risk assessments
Interpersonal Communications
Journey Planning and Vehicle Safety

Personnel from Operation Florian, SARAID, UKRO, EASST and Fire Safety Friends of Russia attended the day and took part in several team exercises that helped participants think about possible threats whilst delivering aid and the steps to take in order to mitigate those threats.

FIRE AID would like to thank Nathan Beard and Katie Robertson of RedR for helping to arrange the course and Paul Hobbs of Shadwell Fire Station (London Fire Brigade) for kindly hosting the event.
