FIRE AID is pleased to announce that three new organisations have been awarded membership by the FIRE AID Steering Committee at its meeting on 25th February 2016. Operation Sabre, The Gurkha Memorial Fund, and OSH Literacy.org all bring valued expertise and experience to the FIRE AID association, including humanitarian aid delivery to Romania and Nepal and the delivery of occupational safety and health training in South East Asia.
UK-registered charity Operation Sabre is awarded membership as a ‘FIRE AID Member’. Their vision is to help shape the future of Transylvania in Romania by preserving and protecting its communities and heritage from the effects of fire and other emergencies. Based in Shropshire, its members are serving and retired staff from the UK’s fire and rescue services who use their free time to make a difference to communities in Transylvania. To date, Operation Sabre has delivered over 20 fire appliances, over 2,000 sets of PPE and training to accompany any donations, as well as providing support to orphanages and a retirement home. Recognising FIRE AID’s first international member, OSH Literacy.org is awarded affiliate membership. OSH Literacy.org aims to raise awareness of the literacy and learning issues which can act as barriers and prevent persons accessing and understanding Occupational Safety & Health communications and training either in the workplace or in places of vocational education and training. It is with this aim that OSH Literacy.org would like to try and reduce the unacceptably high levels of deaths, diseases, accidents, injuries and losses which occur in the workplace every year. The organisation has been conducting occupational safety and health training predominantly with vocational training centres run by NGOs in South East Asia, and has been awarded a grant from the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) enabling delivery of fire safety courses.
