A team from Operation Florian has taken the opportunity to meet with representatives from SOS Children’s Villages Emergency Programme for Macedonia. This international charity has been working in the refugee transit camps in Macedonia providing care and support to children, young people and pregnant women.

Realising the risk from fire in such camps and the devastating impact that burns and scolds can have, SOS Children’s Villages is keen to do all it can and ito work with others to address this.

A very informative initial scoping meeting was held, where the risks from fires were discussed and ideas on possible control measures and training for staff were explored.

Future options included fact finding visits to camps when the situation stabilises and more joint working with SOS emergency programmes in neighbouring countries were covered.

The team flet that a wealth of expertise and experience within the UK Fire & Rescue Service can be shared with these charities working with children and families around fire safety.
