NEW LIFE-SAVING INITIATIVE LAUNCHED IN PAKISTAN
Paramedic motorbike ambulances bring rapid care to hard-to-reach places
FIRE AID and partner International Emergency Team UK (IETUK) are proud to announce the launch of a Paramedic Motorbike Ambulance Service in Mirpur, Kashmir — a nimble, life-saving response tailored to the region’s traffic, terrain, and urgent needs. The pioneering project expands IETUK existing project in Punjab where the region has received 9 motorbikes over the last 8 years and responded to thousands of emergencies. The project is led by Mehrban Sadiq, Chair of IETUK and Trustee of FIRE AID, and builds on more than a decade of joint work delivering emergency equipment and training in Pakistan.
In August, 4 specially equipped motorbikes were donated to establish the first phase of the service. Each bike is stocked with essential life-saving medical supplies to enable paramedics and trained first responders to reach patients quickly and begin immediate care where a traditional ambulance cannot. The agility of the motorbikes means responders can navigate narrow lanes, congested streets and steep trails — cutting minutes, and often hours, from response times in critical situations.

WHY MOTORBIKE AMBULANCES?
Speed in congestion: Motorbikes can bypass heavy traffic and reach victims faster than larger vehicles.
Access to remote locations: Narrow lanes, steep tracks and damaged roads often stop ambulances — motorbikes do not.
Cost-effective and scalable: Lower purchase, maintenance and fuel costs mean more units can be deployed quickly.
Immediate care: Each bike carries essential supplies so responders can stabilise patients until a full ambulance or transport becomes available.
WHAT’S NEXT
This initial donation is the beginning of a wider programme to grow local capability and resilience. Planned next steps include:
Donations of water and rope rescue equipment to support flood and mountain rescue operations.
Specialist training for paramedics and first responders in advanced pre-hospital care, rope rescue and water rescue techniques.
Community outreach and first-aid education to strengthen prevention and early response across Mirpur and neighbouring communities.
LONG-TERM IMPACT
IETUK and FIRE AID’s partnership has steadily expanded emergency response capacity across Pakistan for more than ten years. The motorbike ambulance project is a replicable model created specifically to meet local needs — a timely, pragmatic intervention that complements larger ambulance services and improves outcomes for patients in the golden minutes after an incident.
